Networking site Facebook was ranked as the cause of the breakdown of households in the U.S. with 66 per cent is used as a source of evidence of a divorce case. Then followed with 15 percent of MySpace, Twitter and other 5 percent of 14 percent. One of the celebrity divorce from Facebook is the star of 'Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria. She found her husband, basketball player Tony Parker kept in touch with a woman on Facebook. "All people share their personal things on social networking sites and open things that are sensitive to public space," Keenan added.

"Nothing is more tempting to create a fantasy world until finally hooked to meet directly with the people you meet in cyberspace," he said. According to him, the real problem is not with social networking but the loss of love and affection in marriage.

Valley of Flowers - Heaven in Earth

Valley of Flowers National Park is an Indian national park, Nestled high in West Himalaya, is renowned for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and outstanding natural beauty. It is located in Uttarakhand state. This richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, brown bear and blue sheep. The gentle landscape of the Valley of Flowers National Park complements the rugged mountain wilderness of Nanda Devi National Park to the east. Together they encompass a unique transition zone between the mountain ranges of the Zanskar and Great Himalaya. The park stretches over an expanse of 87.50 km². Both parks are encompassed in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (223,674 ha) which is further surrounded by a buffer zone (5,148.57 km²). This Reserve is in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves since 2004.

The Valley of Flowers is an outstandingly beautiful high-altitude Himalayan valley that has been acknowledged as such by renowned mountaineers and botanists in literature for over a century and in Hindu mythology for much longer. Its ‘gentle’ landscape, breathtakingly beautiful meadows of alpine flowers and ease of access complement the rugged, mountain wilderness for which the inner basin of Nanda Devi National Park is renowned.

Valley of flower is splashed with colour as it bloomed with hundreds different beautiful flowers, taking on various shades of colours as time progressed. Valley was declared a national park in 1982, and now it is a World Heritage Site. The locals, of course, always knew of the existence of the valley, and believed that it was inhabited by fairies.

While trekking towards valley of flowers, one can experience the beauty of shining peaks fully covered with snow. One can also see the beautiful view of surrounding greenery and various running streams with crystal clear water.

The valley is home to many celebrated flowers like the Brahmakamal, the Blue Poppy and the Cobra Lily. It is a much sought after haunt for flower-lovers, botanists and of course trekkers, for whom a sufficient excuse to embark on a mission to reach a place, is that it exists.

The Valley of Flowers is internationally important on account of its diverse alpine flora, representative of the Western Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows ecoregion. The rich diversity of species reflects the valley’s location within a transition zone between the Zaskar and Great Himalayas ranges to the north and south, respectively, and between the Eastern Himalaya and Western Himalaya flora. A number of plant species are internationally threatened, several have not been recorded from elsewhere in Uttarakhand and two have not been recorded in Nanda Devi National Park. The diversity of threatened species of medicinal plants is higher than has been recorded in other Indian Himalayan protected areas . The entire Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve lies within the Western Himalayas Endemic Bird Area (EBA). Seven restricted-range bird species are endemic to this part of the EBA.

The Valley of Flowers was declared a national park in 1982. This part of Uttarakhand, in the upper reaches of Garhwal, is inaccessible through much of the year. The area lies on the Zanskar range of the Himalayas with the highest point in the national park being Gauri Parbat at 6,719 m above sea level.

History & Legends

According to the Ramayan this is the place where Hanuman searched for Sanjivani to cure Lakshman when he was injured by Indrajit(Meghnada), the son of Ravana.

The place had disappeared from the tourist map due to its inaccessible approach but in 1931 Frank S. Smythe a British mountaineer lost his way while returning from a successful expedition to Mt.Kamet and happened upon this valley which was full of flowers. He was so attracted towards the beauty of the place he named it the "Valley of Flowers". He authored a book called "The Valley of Flowers" which unveiled the beauty and floral splendours of the valley and thus threw open the doors of this verdant jewel to nature-enthusiasts all over the world.

In 1939 Miss Margaret Legge, a botanist deputed by the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh arrived at the valley for further studies. While she was traversing some rocky slopes to collect flowers, she slipped off and was lost for ever. Her sister later visited the valley and erected a memorial near the spot. The memorial is still there.

Prof. Chandra Prakash Kala, a botanist deputed by the Wildlife Institute of India, carried out a remarkable research study on the floristics and conservation of the valley for a decade starting in 1993. He made an inventory of 520 alpine plants exclusively growing in this national park and authored two important books - "The Valley of Flowers - Myth and Reality" and "Ecology and Conservation of the Valley of Flowers National Park, Garhwal Himalaya'.

Management

There is no settlement in the national park and grazing in the area has been banned. The park is open only in summer between June and October, being covered by heavy snow during the rest of the year.

The Trek

Getting to the Valley of Flowers requires a trek of about 17 km. The nearest major town is Joshimath in Garhwal, which has convenient road connections from Haridwar and Dehradun, both about 270 km from Joshimath.

Govindghat is a small place close to Joshimath (around one hour distance), from where the trek starts. From Gobindghat, a trek of 14 km brings trekkers to the Ghangaria, a small settlement located about 3 km from the valley. The valley starts near a gorge over the Pushpawati River.

Fauna

The park is home to tahr, snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, common langur, bharal, serow, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan brown bear, Pika (Mouse hare) and a huge variety of butterflies. Among the important birds and Pheasant are, Himalayan Golden Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Snow Partridge, Himalayan Snowcock, Himalayan Monal, Snow Pigeon, Sparrow Hawk etc.

Flora

Flowers mostly orchids, poppies, primulas, marigold, daisies and anemones carpet the ground. Alpine forests of birch and rhododendron cover parts of the park's area. A decade long study of Prof. C.P. Kala from 1993 onwards concludes that the Valley of Flowers endows with 520 species of higher plants (angiosperms, gymnosperms and pteridophytes), of these 498 are flowering plants. The park has many species of medicinal plants including Dactylorhiza hatagirea, Picrorhiza kurrooa, Aconitum violaceum, Polygonatum multiflorum, Fritillaria roylei and Podophyllum hexandrum.

Sigiriya, The Lion Mountain, Sri Lanka

Sigiriya (Lion's rock, Sinhalese - සීගිරිය) is a large stone and ancient rock fortress and palace ruin in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka, surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. A popular tourist destination, Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (frescos), which are reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves of India. It is one of the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya may have been inhabited through prehistoric times. It was used as a rock-shelter mountain monastery from about the 5th century BC, with caves prepared and donated by devotees of the Buddhist Sangha. According to the chronicles as Mahavamsa the entire complex was built by King Kashyapa (477 – 495 CE), and after the king's death, it was used as a Buddhist monastery until 14th century.

The Sigiri inscriptions were deciphered by the archaeologist Senarath Paranavithana in his renowned two-volume work, published by Cambridge, Sigiri Graffiti and also Story of Sigiriya.

One of Asia's major archaeological sites, Sigiriya presents a unique concentration of fifth-century urban planning, architecture, gardening, engineering, hydraulic technology and art. Centred on a massive rock rising 200 meters above the surrounding plain, Sigiriya s location is one of considerable natural beauty and historical interest. An area of ancient settlement lying between the historic capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruva, the Sigiriya plain still retains much of its forest cover, and many of its present village settlements and man-made village reservoirs date back to the first millennium B.C. In its present form, Sigiriya itself is essentially a walled-and-moated royal capital of the fifth century A.D., with a palace complex on top of the rock, elaborate pleasure gardens, extensive moats and ramparts, and the well-known paintings on the western face of the rock.

The history of Sigiriya, however, extends from prehistoric times to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The earliest evidence of human habitation is in the Aligala rock-shelter which lies to the east of the Sigiriya rock. This is a major prehistoric site of the mesolithic period, with an occupational sequence starting nearly five thousand years ago and extending up to early historic times. The historical period at Sigiriya begins about the third century B.C., with the establishment of a Buddhist monastic settlement on the rock-strewn western and northern slopes of the hill around the rock. As in other similar sites of this period, partially man¬made rock-shelters or 'caves', with deeply-incised protective grooves or drip¬ledges, were created in the bases of several large boulders. There are altogether 30 such shelters, many of them dated by the donatory inscriptions carved in the rock face near their drip-ledges to a period between the third century B.C., and the first century A.D. The inscriptions record the granting of these caves to the Buddhist monastic order to be used as residences.

Kasyapa, the master builder

Sigiriya comes dramatically, if tragically, into the political history of Sri Lanka in the last quarter of the fifth century during the reign of King Dhatusena I (459-477 A.D.), who ruled from the ancient capital at Anuradhapura. A palace coup by Prince Kasyapa, the King's son by a non-royal consort, and Migara, the king's nephew and army commander, led ultimately to the seizure of the throne and the subsequent execution of Dhatusena. Kasyapa, much reviled for his patricide, established a new capital at Sigiriya, while the crown prince, his half-brother Moggallana, went into exile in India. Kasyapa 1 (477-495 A.D.) and his master-builders gave the site its present name, 'Simha-girl' or 'Lion-Mountain', and were responsible for most of the structures and the complex plan that we see today. This brief Kasyapan phase was the golden age of Sigiriya.

The post-Kasyapan phases, when Sigiriya was turned back into a Buddhist monastery, seem to have lasted until the thirteenth or fourteenth century. Sigiriya then disappears for a time from the history of Sri Lanka until, in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, it appears again as a distant outpost and military centre of the Kingdom of Kandy. In the mid¬nineteenth century antiquarians begin to take an interest in the site, followed some decades later by archaeologists, who have now been working there for nearly 100 years, since the 1890s. The Cultural Triangle project began its work at Sigiriya in 1982 and has focussed attention not only on the best-known and most striking aspects of Sigiriya: the royal complex of rock, palace, gardens and fortifications of the 'western precinct', but also on the entire city and its rural hinterland.

Banaue Rice Terraces Philippines

Banaue rice terraces were carved in the mountains of Ifugao Philippines by our ancestors of the Batad Indigenous people. This 2000 year old Banaue rice terraces has also been recognized as one of the "Eighth Wonder of the World". It is the only man made wonder that is sculpted from earth. In 1995, Banaue Rice terraces has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This spectacular creation has been built mostly by hand and minimal only with the use of equipments which shows Ifugaos great craftsmanship and creativity. It is composed of rice fields to provide themselves a source of livelihood in the highlands. The location of Banaue rice terraces is 1, 500 meters or 5, 000 feet above sea level and it covers 10, 630 square kilometers about 4, 000 square miles of teh mountainside. This wonder has been fully maintained by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforest above the terraces. This place is greatly known as well as a great tourist destination in the Philippines because aside from its stairway design heading to the sky, there are a lot of hiking trails in the area. It is located north of Manila at Cordillera Mountain Province. If Banaue rice terraces will be connected end to end, the length is ten times longer than the Great Wall of China.

How to reach Banaue Rice Terraces

From Manila:
the most convenient way is to take the 10pm bus from either Dangwa Bus or Auto Bus
(During peak seasons or holy week, you have to at least reserve ticket on week or 3 days before trip whenever possible).
Ticket will cost around PHP 290 (approx. 6 to 7 USD). Trips are usually daily. The trip will usually take you around 8 to 9 hours. The trip will pass by Neighboring Provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Bayombong, Solano, Bambang.
You will arrive around 5 to 6 am the next day.

From Baguio:
as of this date, Auto Bus does not operate unlike in the past. I'm not sure if Dangwa is also operating, but you can take a ride almost every afternoon only near the Rizal Park (in Baguio City). There are buses and mini buses station. You just need to check out the trip schedules because almost everyday, they are changing. This trip will take you from Baguio going down to Carmen, making a let turn to the junction going to Vizcaya, heading east, then a turn from San Jose going up north making your way to Solano or Bayombong The trip will also bore you a long 9 hour haul.

On the other hand, you can settle by riding three different trips: Baguio to Sagada or go directly to Bontoc, taking the trip from either Slaughter House or at the back of Centermall, simply known as Dangwa Terminal. The trip will usually take you 5-6 hours. The trip usually starts around 6 am, taking the Halsema Highway route. If you take the Sagada trip and arriving at the area, it is impossible to leave the place without making your way around, but If you are in a hurry, you can either rent a jeepney going to Bontoc or settle for the next day. It will usually take you around 1 to 2 hours to reach Bontoc. Bontoc is a central part of the transportation link.

From Bontoc:
you can actually go directly to Baguio or Banaue or Sagada. From Bontoc, there are jeepneys that have limited schedules, so an inquiry from locals is recommended. You can take a jeepney trip between 8 am to 10 am. You can ask the locals of what time the trip is in the afternoon. The trip will usually take you 1.5 to 2 hours going to Banaue.

Accomodations

1. Banaue View Inn, overlooking the town square
2. The Banaue Hotel, a ten-minute walk out of the southern side of town. An average standard room will cost you around PHP 1500 or around 30 to 35 USD, will all the comforts, spacious hotel lobbies and panoramic views of the place.

Japanese Overseas Travel Insurance

by: Steve Cogger

If you are an expatriate planning on long-term residence in Japan you can, after a one-year stay, become a part of Japan's national health program. Until that time, however, you're going to need Japanese overseas travel insurance.

Some of the Japanese overseas travel insurance options include not only trip or annual medical emergency coverage for travel but also disability insurance, personal liability coverage and term life insurance. Japanese overseas travel insurance's medical coverage with some plans offers full (100 percent) reimbursement for prescription medicine, medical care for diagnostic purposes, hospital stay and even surgery. You'll also be covered in case of terrorism and an evacuation to your home residence in the event of medical or terrorist emergency.

One firm whose Japanese overseas travel plan we perused offered coverage for those over 80 years old, difficult to find. The minimum coverage time period for this plan is one week (seven days) with a one-year maximum, although it can be renewed for a total of three consecutive years of coverage. Coverage varies according to your age. You must be at least two weeks old for any coverage. If you are under 70 years of age you can choose coverage limits that range from $50,000 to $1 million. Folks between 70 and 79 are excluded from coverage that exceeds $50,000, while those 80 or older can only be covered to a maximum of $10,000.

Let's look at a couple of quotes to see the variation in cost for age, children, number of travelers, and participation in sports. We'll also look at the cost for non-U.S. citizens. The first quote is for a single U.S. resident 18-29 years of age traveling along for one year and not wanting the rider for sports coverage. A $1 million ceiling for Japanese overseas travel insurance coverage, with a $250 deductible, is $576. Reducing the ceiling doesn't seem like nearly as good a deal - the premium is $504, although increasing the deductible to $1000 reduces the cost to $403.20. That same Japanese overseas travel insurance coverage for non-U.S. citizens is several hundred dollars more.

For a couple both 30-39 years old with two children traveling with them, Japanese overseas travel insurance does not come cheap. Assuming U.S. residence and a $500,000 ceiling with $500 deductible the hefty price tag for this coverage is $1814.40. While this may seem excessive, consider the cost of medical coverage for one or more of you, or for emergency evacuation. You'll probably come to the conclusion that Japanese overseas travel insurance is inexpensive as compared to the alternative.

by: Ryu Yuki

When you think of Japan, what comes up to your mind? There might be “Sony” and “Toyota” or “Samurai” and “Geisha.” You might consider that the former ones represent the modern Japan and the later ones represent the past. However, the real Japan is not such simple and contains the both aspects together through its historical stream. It is little bit hard for people to understand that the two different characters exist in one country.

Sushi is one of favorite healthy food these days. Thirty years ago almost nobody was willing to eat raw fish in the US, however, recently there are so many sushi restaurants around urban cities like Los Angeles. People eat sushi because it is not just a efficient diet menu but also an cultural experience. They recognize color scheme of sushi dishes. Red, green, black, yellow, and white on the plate. It is a kind of artistic presentation with natural ingredients.

Any basic daily activities of people, food and craft, gradually grows to be the level of culture after many years. Japan has been organized as a nation for about 1500 years and developed the living style to the cultural value. Even though Japan obtained a lot of influence from the US after the WWII, her original essence remained and still exist everywhere in the country. TOYOTA and SONY could not happened as world famous companies without the soul and cultural background. When you really want to feel and realize what it is, it’s time for you to get on an airplane to Japan. Awesome Faroe Islands !!!!!!

The Faroe Islands, are an island group situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately halfway between Scotland and Iceland. The Faroe Islands are a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with Denmark proper and Greenland.

The Faroe Islands have been an autonomous province of Denmark since 1948. Over the years, the Faroese have been granted control of most matters. Some areas still remain the responsibility of Denmark, though, such as military defence, foreign affairs and law.

The Faroe Islands have close traditional ties with Iceland, Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides. The Faroe Islands were politically associated with Denmark in 1380, when Norway entered the Kalmar Union with Denmark, which gradually evolved into Danish control of the islands, but this association ceased in 1814. The islands are represented on the Nordic Council by the Danish delegation.

As a modern country in the North Atlantic, the Faroes are well aware of the need to develop and maintain good trade relations with other countries. We are a modern, outward-looking Nordic people with a well-developed infrastructure, economic growth and high levels of education, living in spectacular natural landscapes in northern Europeand surrounded by a productive and healthy marine environment.

The Faroe Islands consist of eighteen separate islands. The whole area of the Islands is approximately 1399 square km (540 sq Mles). There is 1117 kilometes (694 mi) of coastline. There are no land boundaries with any other country. The only island that is uninhabited is Lítla Dímun.

The Faroese economy has traditionally been dominated by the fishing industry, and Faroese companies have developed considerable skills and know-how in this field. As well as our significant export of quality fish products, Faroese manufacturing has specialised in producing machines and equipment especially designed for fishing, fish farming and fish processing.

Over the past decades the Faroes have also been exploring and developing new and diverse business possibilities, with a growing emphasis on technology and services.

The Atlantic Frontier to the south of the Faroes is an area, which is expected to provide the basis for a future oil and gas industry in the Faroes.

Map of Faroes Islands!!!

History

The early history of the Faroe Islands is not well known, although Gael hermits and monks from a Hiberno-Scottish mission are believed to have settled in the 6th century, introducing sheep and oats and the early Goidelic language to the islands. Saint Brendan, who is supposed to have lived around 484–578, is said to have visited the Faroe Islands on two or three occasions (512-530), naming two of the islands Sheep Island and Paradise Island of Birds.

Later (c. 650) Norsemen also settled the islands along with the early Gaels, bringing to the islands the Old Norse language which evolved into the modern Faroese language spoken today. The settlers are not thought to have come directly from Norway, but rather they were Norwegian settlers from Shetland and Orkney, and Norse-Gaels from the areas surrounding the Irish Sea and Western Isles of Scotland. The old Gaelic name for the Faroe Islands Na Scigirí means the Skeggjar and probably refers to the Eyja-Skeggjar (Island-Beards), a nickname given to the island dwellers.

The Faroe Islands have a very active music scene. The islands have their own symphony orchestra, the classical ensemble Aldubáran and many different choirs; the most well-known being Havnarkórið. The most well-known Faroese composers are Sunleif Rasmussen and the Dane Kristian Blak. Blak is also head of the record company Tutl.

The festival of contemporary and classical music, Summartónar, is held each summer. Large open-air music festivals for popular music with both local and international musicians participating are G! Festival in Gøta in July and Summarfestivalurin in Klaksvík in August.

Open up your senses, take a deep breath and fill your mind with purity.Welcome to the Faroe Islands just two hours flight from London. The Faroe Islands may not be easy to find on a world map but if you have been there once you will never forget. This is the country with the freshest of air and an overwhelming nature. Population & Economy

The language of the Farøes is one of the Germanic family of languages. Like Icelandic, to which it is closely related, it was originally derived from the old Nordic tongue, to be succeeded by a number of dialects. Modern Faroese spelling rules were laid down by V. U. Hammershaimb in 1846, and this has brought in its wake a unique and original form of Faroese literature. Danish is a compulsory second language in the schools.

Sheep-rearing has long been important on the islands, which are indeed named after the sheep. Today the principal source of income for the inhabitants is fishing. Some of the people work in shipyards and spinning-mills. Pullovers in beautiful colors and designs are popular souvenirs with tourists.

The largest islands are Streymoy, Eysturoy, Suøuroy, Sandoy and Vágar. Most are separated by narrow sounds..

The major attractions of the islands are

Bordoy
Eysturoy
Mykines
Sandoy
Streymoy with Torshavn
Suduroy
Vagar
Vidoy

Bordoy

To the north and northeast of Eysturoy lie many sizable and smallish islands. Klaksvik, on Bordoy, has a population of 5,000, making it the second largest town in the Farøes. The town began to grow when fishing became more important than agriculture, for Klaksvik has a good natural harbor surrounded by hills. Note the History Museum and St Christians Church, from the roof of which hangs a boat which was the only one of four to return safely to land on a stormy winter's night in 1923.

Eysturoy

East of Streymoy lies Eysturoy. These two islands, the largest in the Farøes group, are linked by a bridge. Between Gjógy and Eiøi in the north of Eysturoy tower the highest cliffs in the Faroes, reaching heights up to 882m/2,895ft above sea-level. They can be climbed in clear weather and from the top there is an extensive view over the sea and the islands. At the northern tip of Eysturoy the Rison and Kellingin rocks tower up out of the water.

Mykines

From Sorvágur on the west coast of Vágar there is a boat service in summer to the little island of Mykines, where the rocks inhabited by birds are easily accessible and extremely attractive. Seagulls, guillemots and puffins abound; the inhabitants catch birds for food.

Sandoy

To the south of Streymoy lie Sandoy and Suduroy, between which flows the Suduroyar Fjord. Sandoy ("Sand Island"), named after the sandy beaches near Sandur and Húsavik, is the flattest of the islands. The land is used for agriculture and there is excellent fishing. In the pretty village of Húsavik can be seen an old house with an open fireplace and chimney; until a few years ago this house was inhabited.

Stremoy with Torshavn

The largest island in the Farøes archipelago is Streymoy (Danish "Strømø"). On its southeast coast lies Tórshavn, the port and capital of the Faroes. It has only 15,000 inhabitants, making it the smallest capital in Scandinavia.

The oldest part of the town, with pretty little wooden houses, lies on a spit of land in the harbor area. At the tip of this peninsula, at Cape Tinganes, the Vikings established their first thingstead (legislative council), probably about 930. Near the peninsula stands a memorial to Niels Ryberg Finsen (1860-1904), who was born in Tórshavn and won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1903.

Also of interest is the fortress of Skansen (ca. 1580) near the harbor, from which in years gone by the entrance into the town was defended. In the National Museum, with its ethnological collections, etc., visitors can obtain information on the history and culture of the Faroes. The Maritime Museum is housed in a neighboring building.

The important places of Stremoy to visit are

Torshavn - Kirkjubour

To the southwest of Tórshavn lies Kirkjuböur, a place inhabited by Irish monks as early as the eighth C. Here stand the ruins of the 13th C. St Magnus' Cathedral, an uncompleted building with tall basalt walls and Gothic pointed windows, and St Olaf's Church which has been restored. The medieval timber-framed house known as "Stokkakstovan" is now a museum.

Torshavn - Kvivik

North of Tórshavn it is worth visiting Kvivik, where a house dating from the Viking Age has been excavated, and Hvalvik, which has the oldest wooden church in the Farøes.

Torshavn - Saksun Museum

In a deep valley about 10km/6mi from Kvivik, on the northwest coast of Streymoy, lies Saksun, now a museum depicting life in the Middle Ages, with good fishing nearby. The Dúvugardur, a farmhouse built of boulders and peat, is furnished much as it was in the Middle Ages.

Suduroy

Sumba on Suduroy is the most southerly of the Farøe Islands. The road to it passes the impressive Beinisvord Cliffs on the west coast, a nesting-place for numerous sea-birds. The most modern fish-processing plant on the Farøes is to be found in Vágur on the east coast. Note also the votive church which was a gift from a Norwegian lady.

Vagar

A runic stone can be seen near Sandavágur, on the island of Vágar to the west of Streymoy. The Bosdalafossur Waterfall is scenically most impressive. The unique rock formation known as the "Trøllkonfingur" (Witch's Finger), on the extreme east coast, stands 350m/1,150ft high; King Frederik VII, who visited the island in 1844, was most impressed by it. There is a Folklore Museum in Miøvágur, a small village south of Vágar.

Vidoy

Vidoy, in the middle of a hilly area on the island of Vidoy, is the northernmost point in the Farøes. From Cape Enniberg (750m/2,460ft) there is a fine view of several islands. The cliffs to the north of Viøareiøi are home to immense colonies of sea birds.

The overwhelmingly spectacular nature is the main tourist attraction and there are many opportunities to experience these wonders. There are multiple possibilities for hiking, trekking and fishing, and the Faroe Islands are a bird-watchers paradise. Boat trips, bus tours, riding treks, bird watching, hiking or trekking can be arranged from the tourist information office in Tórshavn.Faroese history is exhibited in the historical museum in Tórshavn, and all year round original Nordic Arts and crafts of various artists are displayed in the Nordic House.
